The process of creating… September 4, 2006

Sometimes I wonder what moves us to constantly continue creating. Then I remember that it is impossible not to create. Anytime we think we are creating. Anytime we speak to anyone we are creating. And then I wonder: what do we find that is so satisfying in the process of creation? The immediate answer that comes to mind is that the only reason to create is to connect to someone else. So creation becomes a means of relating to eachother. Therein lies the universal consciousness. Being of service to someone else. Being immersed in connection with eachother. This is what fulfills our soul.
We create to either be loved or to love. Therefore creation is, in essence, a true two way communication system.

I often imagine creativity as a plant-like potential of growth. It is not entirely conscious. Even if you say to yourself: “I don’t want to create”, the plant inside you will still want to grow.
Plants always look for places to grow, and at the same time they try to adapt to their environment. Human creativity works in a similar way – finding your niche is as important as perfecting your skills.
